Kipp does a solo performance (guitar and voice) that focuses on social justice issues. She will, for example, talk a little bit about immigration -- from the standpoint of the immigrant -- and then sing a song that gives the audience a glimpse of what it might feel like to be in that position. Something that humanizes and personalizes the experience for the listener. Something to make the listener think.
Kipp also works as a freelance guitarist and vocalist. For more than a decade, she worked and toured with reggae bands and artists. As a backing musician for reggae artists, she has worked with: The Wailing Souls, Israel Vibration, The Itals, Foundation, Freddie McGregor, Al Campbell, Don Carlos, Leroy Sibbles, Eek-a-Mouse, Mikey Dread, Ras Michael, Donovan, Lady Saw, Admiral Bailey, Professor Nuts, Mr. Vegas, Lexxus, Wendy Shaw, Pato Banton, Andrew Tosh, Junior Reid, Daddy U-Roy, Glen Washington, Rocky Dawuni, Barbara Paige, Bernie Larsen, Smoothie Jones, Swelele, Professor Einstein, Buppy Brown, Jahmali, Stranger Cole, Johnny Osbourne, Sugar Black, Shinehead, Wayne Wonder, Don Carlos, Jerri Jheto, James Ide, and Prezident Brown.
She’s also worked with a number of bands, which include: Southern California-based reggae and ska bands Exodus and the Sons & Daughters of Jah, the Freedom Fighters, Back-n-Service, Jawge & the Unknown Band, Jumbalaya, Roughhouse, Mo’ dn Irie, Kindread, Bass Culture, Detour Posse, Cry on Cue, Urban Dread, the BackBeat Brawlers, as well as Washington D.C.-based band, Black Sheep, and Birmingham, England-based band, the Reggae Revolution. She has done guest performances with the internationally celebrated Jamaican band, Third World, and worked with LA top 40 band, Evelution.
Kipp was the resident guitarist and vocalist for Lynwood United Methodist Church, where for several years she played gospel music for services and special events.
In 2016, she started working with an ensemble called Island Serenade (IslandSerenade.com) with steel drummer and vocalist, Greg Paxton. The music is a combination of pop music -- Sting, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Bill Withers, etc. -- and a classic form of dance music from Trinidad called "soca." (if you've heard "Feelin' hot, hot, hot!", then you've heard soca)
Kipp received her musical education from Laney College in Oakland, and Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. She attended El Camino College to study digital studio recording, where she took classes in Logic Pro (a digital recording platform), and piano.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Culture from the University of California at Santa Cruz .
